Looking at the sub-compact Ford Fiesta, it’s hard to imagine peppy-hatchback as a bonafide racecar. But don’t tell that to Tanner Foust or Ken Block, who are proving that the Ford Fiesta (when tuned by the right wrenches) isn’t just a capable race car, but a world-beating rally vehicle. The Fiesta’s entry in the Global RallyCross championship is proof positive that these little cars can race with the best, and with drivers like Foust and Block behind the wheel, it shouldn’t be surprising how badly they are dominating the competition.
Ford Racing put together this brief-but-cool video following the Fiestas as they conquer round two of the Global RallyCross championship.
The race, which is called Twin Peaks, takes place in Washington state at the Dirtfish Rally School’s Old Mill Park. This former lumber mill-turned-automotive playground hosted drivers from across the world who came to compete in the global RallyCross championship. Tanner Foust was on the field for Ford, as was Andreas Eriksson, who placed in third even though he lost a wheel at some point during the race.
It should come as no surprise though that Tanner Foust once again took home the RallyCross gold medal. As an added bonus, about halfway through the video we get to see Foust leap over a production Fiesta with his racing Fiesta. Not only does he soar over the little blue compact car, but he very nearly went over the jump as well. That could have ended badly. But it didn’t, and now Ford, Foust, and the Fiesta have another feather they can put in their collective caps.
