If you’ve seen any of the recent theatrical remakes of Transformers, you’ve no doubt noticed that they are dominated by GM vehicles (real or concept). The only Ford we’ve seen so far was the Mustang police car called Barricade. There’s another Mustang Transformer roaming in plain view of the public though, a hard-to-miss red convertible named Drew Beauminer.
Sounds like a weird name for a Transformer, right? Comics Alliance discovered that Drew is actually an attention-seeking would-be singer who, as it turns out, recently tried his hand at American Idol. And how did that work out for him?
Not so well, as it turns out. Young Drew impressed the two new judges (Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler) as well as old standby Randy Jackson with his Transforming prowess. The costume was constructed by Drew himself out of a Power Wheels Mustang, and we’ve all got to give the man credit for his ingenuity. We’re sad to say though, that this dude just can’t sing. Furthermore, Drew’s notion that in a decade we’ll all be driving around in car suits like his is just plain weird. We like driving cars, not being cars, though being a Transformer might have its perks when it came to bar fights. But if you’re a Transformer, can you still get a DUI?
Anyway, Drew tries to sing “Born to be Wild” when, as Comics Alliance points out, he should have been singing The Touch by Stan Bush, which was one of two original songs produced for the 1986 The Transformers: The Movie. Drew really missed the boat on this one, but there’s always next year.
