America’s interstate system is undoubtedly one of the greatest engineering achievements of the 20th century, connecting every corner of our country via a system of highways and tributary roads. Constructing such a system was no small task, as many sections of highway carved straight though impassable mountains, which meant the construction of many, many tunnels.
While we never thought of tunnels as a gathering for car cruises, this video found by Mustang Evolution has given us pause. An Austrian car club put out this “Tunnel Cruise” teaser video, which stars a number of Mustangs and has us looking at tunnels in a whole different way.
The Austrian Tunnel Cruise club seems to be intoxicated by the reverberating sound of a big V8 echoing through a tunnel. Austria is a notoriously mountainous country through which many tunnels have been carved, giving rise to a new sort of car club: tunnel cruisers. Speed and excitement are not what these men and women are after; but rather the sound of their Mustang’s V8 engines echoing all around them.
Tunnel Cruise.at focused on the engine sound in confined areas and has nothing to do with speed. Most tunnel Cruises take place at night or at off-peak days, not to convey to other road users the wrong impression.
Actually, if you ask us, this sounds like some good, clean fun, and we can’t wait to see the rest of the video they have in the works. Who knows, it might even catch on here in America. Stay tuned!
