These days marketing companies are all about “viral” marketing campaigns that are meant to have the look and feel of a kind of crazy, legitimate stunt. Car companies are no stranger to viral video marketing, though sometimes the videos aren’t even trying to sell something, and instead are merely there for entertainment purposes. Sometimes they fall short, sometimes they are hilarious, but almost all of them are worth watching at least once.
It would appear that everybody’s favorite Mustang drifter and Formula Drift Champion Vaughn Gittin Jr. decided to get in on the act with a viral video of his own. Jalopnik found this video of what starts as some serious hoonage in a Carl Jr.’s parking lot, and ends up with a manned mascot decorating the hood of his Mustang.
We can’t imagine what it must be like, being a professional race car driver forced to drive on the streets with the rest of us plebians. The urge to start drifting or drag racing must always be there, and in this video, Vaughn Gittin and his camera crew clearly give in to the temptation to drift the mostly-empty Carl Jr.’s parking lot.
And there might actually be some legitimacy to the whole spontaneous drifting in a parking lot, as Gittin very nearly smashes into a car turning into the parking lot right at the beginning of the video. Then in the last few seconds, we are treated to the Carl’s Jr Happy Star winding up on the hood of Gittin’s Mustang, and the drifting driver suddenly freaking out over the bumbling mascot. Yeah, it was totally scripted…but we laughed, and you probably will too. Enjoy!
