Wrecking is a part of racing, and while some people may enjoy watching a good high-speed accident, for those involved it can be a scary (and expensive) problem. Yet it is something even the best drivers must contend with, especially in today’s crowded racing fields, where many different leagues and classes must compete at the same time.
At least weekend’s race at Barber Motorsports Park, a first-lap wipeout wrecked many of the dozen Mustangs competing in the series. This video comes from fellow Mustang driver Alain Desrochers, who managed to avoid the worst of it.
With 75 different cars, and over a dozen Mustangs, competing in various classes, to call the track “crowded” might be a bit of an understatement. Many of the Mustangs competing were the new 2013 Boss 302S models built specifically for this kind of racing (though Alain appears to be driving an older 2012 Boss 302R model).
The video starts just before the checkered flag, and by the time we are into the first turn we can see the white Mustang with blue stripes trying to steal the inside corner. But the other drivers weren’t having it, and after some bumping and banging, the white Mustang careens across the corner, taking out at least six of his fellow competitors, many of them also driving Mustangs.
It was a less-than-glorious day for Mustang drivers everywhere…but at least it made for a good, if brief, video.
