Recently spotted on Ebay, a cool Vintage 1979 Mustang coloring book has been found.  A great collectable for any Mustang enthusiast, the bidding has currently started off at $19.95. 1979, a very exciting year for Mustangs, the 1979 Mustang had been selected as the pace car for the 63rd running of the Indy 500.

This unique coloring book brochure, which also features the 1965 Mustang on the front cover, commemorates three generations of the Mustang. In immaculate condition, this is a great find for any owner, fan, or enthusiast into Mustang collectible items, especially Fox body enthusiasts.

The Mustang, which had not been selected as a pace car since 1964, was chosen in large part, due to the release of the 1979 Fox chassis, which was the introduction of the third generation of the pony car. Three official pace cars were created by ROUSH that year for track duty.

All replicas that were available for sale looked identical in every way with the exception of the T-Top option that did not come available until 1981. The pace car powered by a 5.0 liter V8 engine was modified by ROUSH using a Holley carb, 351 Windsor heads, and an aluminum high rise-intake. Engine bay also included 1969 Boss 302 connecting rods, forged-steel crankshaft, and forged aluminum TRW pistons with Speed Pro rings. All official track duty pace cars used a modified C-4 automatic transmission.

Jackie Stewart piloted the actual Mustang pace car for the start of the 1979 Indy 500, while Jim Rathmann took over pacing duties during caution periods throughout the race. Later that same year, two of the three pace vehicles were re-styled for use in the Detroit Gran Prix. White paint was shot over the factory Pewter Polly and a new graphics package was applied.
