The Retro design theme has had a good run and produced some inspired designs, but there is a growing contingent that feels it has pretty much run its course. Even J Mays at Ford has hinted that the next Mustang will be completely different – a statement that has some of the faithful shaking in their boots.
Well, there’s no progress without change, so bring it on. This particular example is said to be inspired by the classic BOSS Mustang of the past, but clearly, the designer didn’t get stuck there. The Jakusa Bossco concept is the vision of Tamas Jakus, who hails from Gyor, Hungary. Far from being a lone Photoshop or Maya 3D geek, Jakus already has another concept car – the Triango Revelation – being built in Hungary at the moment.
Conceptually, this two-door coupe rides on 21-inch wheels and is about the same size as today’s production pony cars. Apparently, Jakus envisions a 600 horsepower V6 engine for the concept, which would be entirely sufficient to alienate the environmentalists and turn this concept into a weapons-grade ride.
Many people see many different things in these sketches, of which the most common seems to be that this is a blend of contemporary Mustang and Camaro designs. While we’re not entirely convinced of that concept, the design does appear to have a strong, but tempered ‘Transportation Design School’ influence.
As a new generation of automotive designers begins to have an impact on what cars of the future will look like, it is certain that we’re going to move ahead with them. Perhaps the days of the three-box sedan are finally done and, if Jakus is any indication, muscle cars are going to get a lot more exciting, too.
