As NASCAR’s Chief Operating Officer, Brent Dewar is smack dab in the middle of the performance car world. But while there are plenty of performance machines on the market fitting for a NASCAR executive to drive, what Dewar takes to work everyday isn’t your typical performance car, according to The Wall Street Journal. That’s because rather than a Corvette, Mustang, or even an Italian-bred supercar, Dewar drives a Ford Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid.
While Dewar finds himself in a position where he’s around performance cars on a regular basis, its alternative fuel vehicles that intrigue him the most, the plug-in hybrid being one of them.
Having an interest in electric and hybrid vehicles, Dewar was instantly drawn to the Ford Fusion Energi, one of which he saw on display at a NASCAR race in 2013.
With plenty of research, Dewar only grew more smitten with the vehicle and ended up purchasing one of his own for about $40K.
Having only a 15-mile commute to work, Dewar’s choice in a daily driver works very well as it will drive 21 miles on battery power alone. Once Dewar gets to work, he plugs his car into one of the Eaton fast-charging stations located in the parking lot to recharge his car in under three hours.
Though Dewar’s car is far from the typical performance car, he says that the car produces enough torque in electric mode to make it feel like a performance machine. And to make things even better, Dewar gets this without having to put a drop of gasoline in the car’s tank. In fact, he told The Wall Street Journal that for the first six months of owning the car, he never visited a single gas station.
Certainly not what you’d expect the COO of NASCAR to be driving, the Ford Fusion Energi seems to be the perfect car for Dewar. He certainly sees the irony in his vehicle choice but says he loves his car anyway. And when it comes to your personal ride choice, that’s all that matters!
What would you use as a daily driver if you were the COO of NASCAR?
