The 2011-12 Ford Mustangs have been hot and heavy in the high performance and drag racing news over the last week, and the hits keep on coming with our latest tip from the team at Woodbine Motorsports in Maryland, who last weekend reset the record for a naturally-aspirated combo utilizing the stock 5.0L long block. The Woodbine 2011 Mustang carded a killer 10.88 at 125 MPH, with a 1.48 short time, while tipping the scales at a hefty 3,550 pounds.

Naturally-aspirated records are of particular interest to us, because quite frankly, that’s as raw as horsepower gets, and it separates one engine builder from the next. Not to say that boosted records aren’t impressive in their own right, but going it “commando” is an effort we’ll award two thumbs up for any day. to add to that, naturally aspirated is one of the least-chased benchmarks out there in the Mustang arena.

While the stock long block remained intact, Woodbine did utilize a number of aftermarket additions to bust into the 10-second zone. The factory intake was replaced with a Boss unit, mated up to a JLT cold air intake. The exhaust system was hacked off and replaced with Dynatech LT’s, cat-less mid pipes and a 3-inch exhaust system from Pypes. Other enhancements included a Barton shifter, McLeod RST clutch, aluminum driveshaft, and Metco lower control arms with relocation brackets. A custom Woodbine tune was also created via SCT’s flash tuner.
