Hitting the auction block with only seven miles on the original clock, a cool one of a kind find is set to roll onto the red carpet in Anaheim, California, at the world famous Mecum Auction come November. A rare low mileage American 2006 Ford GT will make its appearance the weekend of November 13th through the 15th and is sure to garner the most serious of collectors from around the globe.
With the deepest pockets a stir, we expect this sweet find to commence some heated bidding. The Ford GT is an American mid-engine two-seater sports car that Ford Motor Company produced from 2005 to 2006. A design that drew its inspiration from the Blue Oval’s Ford GT40 racing cars of the 1960s, the GT features many unique technologies of its day, including a superplastic-formed frame, aluminum body panels, roll bonded floor panels, along with a friction stir welded center tunnel, and a “ship-in-a-bottle” gas tank.
Powered by a mid-mounted 5.4 liter modular V8 engine that is all aluminum and is given support by a Lysholm twin-screw type supercharger, this track virgin is capable, according to recorded test results, of 0-60 in 3.3 seconds with a 0-60 time of 3.7 seconds. Powering out 550 Horsepower at 6,500 RPMs and generating 500 lb-ft of torque at 3,750 RPMs, this is by far one of the most respected American produced high end performance vehicles ever made.
As with many exotic vehicles, when the Ford GT was first released, the demand outpaced supply, and the cars initially sold for premium prices. Of the 4,500 GTs originally planned only 4,038 came to pass, with the final eleven bodies disassembled and the frames and body panels sold as service parts. Around 100 of these made found their way to Europe with another 200 or so finding their final destination in Canada. Sadly production ended in 2006 without reaching the planned allotment.
Sporting white exterior with traditional racing stripes, the interior cabin bay area is black and many of the creature comforts expected from a high end exotic performance ride from this day. With past bidding of the Ford GT fetching mid to higher end six-figure numbers, this one of a kind find is sure to be the feature ride of interest on the Mecum auction block this upcoming weekend. What would you pay for the low mileage find?
