Ford showed off their new “Reflex” concept car at the North American auto show last week. The car represents what is surely to come in the world of hybrid vehicles. Reflex is features a bio-diesel and electric engine (1.4-liter Duratorq TDCi with hybrid-electric motor assist) – delivering up to 65 miles per gallon. It puts out 155 horsepower and 129 ft.lbs. of torque. The glass roof is actually comprised of solar panels which recharge the lithium-ion battery pack. Similar solar panels exist in the headlights. The interior is made from synthetic and regenerated materials, such as Nike Grind – yes, ground up tennis shoe rubber material used for sound NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) control.
Beyond all the eco stuff, this thing looks pretty amazing. Hopefully it will make it to production so someone can buy it and drop a stroked and supercharged Windsor into it. More pictures after the jump.

But i bet someone at ford is all about it being a high gas mileage electric style car
It’s about time someone is putting out a diesel hybrid. Make it a plug-in as well and even I, a chevy diehard, will consider buying one. I’ve had it with all this gas-hybrid hype from Toyo and Honda. You can’t even touch their cars without a deposit. Ford has the right idea with this Reflex. Let’s see if Mr. Ford puts it to the assembly line. I’m due for a new car but I’ll give Mr. Ford a couple of years to make my decision.

Too often, by the time the bean counters are finished, alluring concepts are reduced to ‘blah’. Start with an MSRP under $20k and the Reflex will replace the Scion tC in my garage.

This is the way forward. The sooner you get this type of car in the showroom, the sooner we back on track. I’m sure you’d hate to be the Ford that lost the Company. That would be a tough thing to live with I would think.

I am just wondering what kind of power to weight ratio it would have. Would it end up being in the same kind of power as a dodge noen? Thats abotu the same power # that a neon has.

The mileage of 65 per gallon will sale the car if the price is right. I have three Ford products right now and was planning to buy a Pontiac Solstice but I think I’ll wait to see what Ford does with the Reflex. I hope they hurry.

I think it would be a major hit.
I suggest Ford gets off the stick and sets up a production line for it pronto.

It will probably cost twice as much as the Focus with a price tag near $40K. Not worth the current $1K/year fuel savings for most buyers. If gas price skyrockets to 5 or 10 bucks a gallon this could be a massive seller though.

The only problem I run into on a regular basis when looking for a vehicle, is that these new *green* machines are too small.
At 6’1″, I need more room.

I know it is a big risk, but you might be the only one in your industry who actively acknowledges that petroleum is in fact a limited resource.

Not only is it diesel (I currently use bio diesel), but it is also a hybrid. How much better can it get? Please get this car on the assembly line so I can buy one!!
