Toyota’s redesigned Tundra fell one star short of the perfect five-star rating for driver safety in head-on collisions in a test by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Bloomberg News reported.
Full-size pickups from General Motors and Ford’s F-150 earned five stars.
To earn a top frontal-crash rating, vehicles are judged to have a 10 percent or less possibility of a driver injury requiring immediate hospitalization in a head-on collision at 35 miles per hour. A four-star rating means an injury risk of 11 percent to 20 percent.
“leave America to real Americans”
LOL.. you mean Indians?
By Ingle. October 8th, 2008 at 4:16 pmAll I can say to all of you foreign car lovers is why the hell don’t you all get to hell out of America. Take your fantastic Jap Crap cars with you and leave America to real Americans.
By Joe Bluntz. August 25th, 2008 at 10:56 amThe last time I checked the BIG 3 were not the BIG 3 anymore. Toyota is the number 1 automaker.
By 10nmbri. July 10th, 2008 at 12:52 pmToyota any good! Like to meet the dumbasses who said that! To start things off, ford did, does, and will look good. Tundra face litterally kills it. And for all of you that say that the tundra has better acceleration and speed, why the hell are you buying a fucking truck!? Get a mustang gt and then talk about ford power! Ford is way to ahead and will advance as the tundra will watch. The big3 are the big3 for a reason. And for the dumbass who named all of his cars and was going to buy an f350, if you hate ford so much, then why are you still test driving fords! Cuz you know theyre better! Also, my neighbor a few houses down has a new f250 on his driveway with a 30 day tag and last week there was a tundra in its place. Idont talk to him much so i dont know details. Wel, to sum it up, the reviews and my neighbor say it all, get a ford!!!
By Fordman1. May 29th, 2008 at 9:05 pmI have a 2007 5.7L Tundra and before I bought it I tested both the F150 and Tundra with an 8,000lb trailer behind each. Before any of you bash Toyota for not being as much truck, I suggest you do the same. The F150 can’t accelerate, brake, handle, or maneuver anything like the Tundra (why I bought mine). And if anyone has anything to say I suggest you drive them both. I’ve always been a domestic guy, and now that I have the Tundra (built in Texas), I can say that I have the best domestic truck built end of story. Oh and FYI about crash testing, the Tundra was the only truck on the market to earn an IIHS best pick this year. Guess 6 standard airbags and a very impressive star safety system have a little something more than most give credit for.
By Kyle. May 19th, 2008 at 11:14 amToyota employs more americans than ford? AHAHAHAH thats the biggest piece of crap post I have seen in my life.
My JOB is automotive statistics my friend.
YOU need to do your homework.
The BIG 3 are called the BIG 3 for a reason, they employ america.
By MM. May 15th, 2008 at 6:33 pmWell, I know i aint got much room to talk cause i dont know near as much as yall bout this. but what ive noticed is that everyone whos test driven all the full sized pickups like to choose Ford over everyone. i think thats pretty interesting atleast. Ive driven my F150 and ive driven a tundra but by far i would choose F150 because its an actual truck. it doesnt gotta go fast, its gotta haul and tow. thats what trucks do. and in the case of bein a truck, Ford has it. i live in a big city (Houston) and i see people pullin around gigantic trailers for their job every mornin and night and ive come to realize that its ford, dodge, or chevy thats pullin these trailers. in the 4 years ive been lookin ive only seen one older model tundra pullin an empty lawn company trailer. you can make all the fancy acronyms you want, but when it comes down to it… the big 3 got their act together
By Casey. March 29th, 2008 at 7:53 pmI have a 2004 F150 as a work truck and a 94 GMC as my truck. The ford has more creature comforts but I still would depend on my Gmc before the ford, and Toyota anything before anything domestic
By Dick. March 27th, 2008 at 7:56 pmI’ve purchased at least 9 new Fords over the last 20 years (including 3 Lightnings) and 2 used Toyotas. I hate to say it, but only one of the Fords was close enough to being trouble free (still under 30k miles) but both of the Toyotas required zero $$ spent on repairs up to 200k miles.
Why does Toyota employ more American workers in the USA than Ford? It’s true- look it up. Ford needs to get their act together. Why do we continue to support a brand that won’t support us?
By Tom. March 3rd, 2008 at 3:21 amI remember peal haurbor not to mention my grandfather was shot by the japanees, so go ahead you rice eaters I am sure japan will let you in. Buy domestic or get OUT.
By ford man. February 29th, 2008 at 10:37 amTOYOTA- Totally Overrate Your Own Truck’s Abilities. Toyota guys always have to tell you how great their vehicle is. I think they’re trying to convince themselves. I just read the Tundra might be recalled for cam shaft failures. I’m sure the Tundra is a good truck but, not better than anything else.
By glenn. January 15th, 2008 at 8:30 am[…] Re: 2009 Toyota Tundra RZ I found the thread in less then 4 second’s the power of search » F150 beats Toyota Tundra in Crash Tests fordmuscle.com […]
By 2009 Toyota Tundra RZ - Tundra Solutions Forum. January 10th, 2008 at 6:52 amI’ve owned Ford and Toyota vehicles. All new at the time. Ford doesn’t even come close to Toyota. For example, Fords squeak more, mess up more, need repair more, complain about fixing cars when under warantee, and dealership/service doesn’t treat you the same after your car has been purchased.
I own a 2001 Toyota Tundra SR5 Access Cab, a 2006 Toyota Tundra Double Cab, a 2001 Ford 150 Pickup, a 1994 GT Mustang Convertible, and a 1998 Ford Escort SE Sport with a 2.0 Sport Induction Engine, a 1990 Nissan Sentra XE, a 1991 Nissan XE Pickup.
My 2001 and 2006 Toyota pickups are uncomparable to size, brute force, off roading, safety, insurance, warantee, service/dealership treating me like a King, and just awesome vehicles. My Fords have already needed engine and transmission service. My Toyotas have traveled to the booneys, bivuacs, back, off roading, and still drive as if I bought them yesterday.
My Nissan pickup was weak, beautiful, handy, and worked getting me where I wanted to go. Just dangerous during crashes. My Ford Escort, only after fixing, drives like a race car (it’s ugly but saves gas).
The best engines by far are in Hondas and Toyotas. For example, I owned a 1979 Honda CVC Hatchback and it lasted until 1997 before it needed an engine job, its first.
Toyota Tundras are far superior to Ford 150s any second, minute, hour, day, week, month, year, decade, century, and millenium.
I was going to buy a Ford 350 and it wouldn’t make a U turn even when I tried making it from the center lane on one side of the street to the furthest right lane on the other side of the street. Toyota Tundras turn easily, drive easy, and stop on a dime. When my Tundra gets serviced I get free Movie Tickets, Knott’s Berry Farm Tickets, AAA Service, StarBucks, Subway, Enterprise Free Rented Cars, Shuttle Service to and from, Five Star Service, Ski Resort Ski Lift Tickets, and Grand Prix Tickets.
Toyota Tundra 100% awesome and Ford 150s 70% okay. Toyota Tundras win in speed, looks, service, quality, noise reduction, warantees, guarantees, maintaining price value upon sale, towing, and Horse Power (HP). : )
By Ernesto Escobar. December 26th, 2007 at 4:18 pmYeah it’s funny how all the other automakers decide to copy Ford, hydroformed fully boxed frame. Funny thing is if you look closely at one of toyota’s older Tundra comercials is that the production crew are all driving Fords. Also F150 can still out tow and haul that big fat box Totota calls a truck, that things uglier than prince Charles.
New 2009 F150 and Dodge 1500 will be top dogs next year. Higher HP Hemi with better fuel economy, 6.2 and 5.8 liter ford and they both will have a diesel engine. I think the competition (Toyota) is going to have to wait 5 more years to play catch again.
And to all those lame asses who think they are smart.
By John. November 29th, 2007 at 6:39 amDude it doesn’t take much brainpower to figure out a 4 letter acronym. Fix Or Repair Daily, no it’s Flip Over and Read Directions because you need directions to build a real truck, not a overpriced cheapy feeling tankass like Toyota puts out.
personally im a BIG BAD THE MIGHTY HILUX (TACO) FAN
before you RAG on the HILUX ( only TRUCK that made it to the north pole ) and is bragged on TOP GEAR.
but yeah
personally Ford and Toyota made Some BADASS TRUCKS
The NEW tundra looks and performs outstanding,
the new 150 is the most selling vehicle in america, ( i believe mostly came from COMMERCIAL use) but thats kewl.
the 650 is GODLIKE you seen that? a truck or semi? lol
but yeah to say the truth ford is ONLY good for thier Trucks.
go TUNDRA CRAFTSMAN SERIES!
By 22REalltheway. November 27th, 2007 at 10:25 pmand Ivan ” IRONMAN” Stuart trophy tundra
I’ve got an 2007 tundra and a 2007 f-150… f-150 is no where near the truck the tundra is. f-150 can’t steer all that well, has a rubberband like drive train and a light rear end. The tundra is solid and the steering reflects this. That bitch is 1500 pounds heavier and grips the road like no other.
I paid a lot more for the tundra, but got a lot more in terms of quality, ride and handling (I hate american car’s ride… I know, I’m a commie). I love both trucks, but if I had to pick, I’d keep the yota. Shhh… don’t tell the ford, she get’s jealous!
By Chris. October 19th, 2007 at 8:01 amim talking bout the 09 tundra not the 500+ hp 3v….
By jon. June 30th, 2007 at 6:03 pmShado you and your hot air are the only thing that’s flimsy. The F150 may not be as fast as the Toyota if that’s your thing in a 5500 pound truck racerboy(although for about the same price it can be with full warrantee) but it is built like a brick house unlike the Toyota. Sorry there buddy but Toyota will spend a brief time at the top as they’re having some major quality problems of late. Check the Camry tranny check the new Tundra camshafts breaking and total recall. Sorry guy Toyota needs a lot more than a hot engine to make a truck……the guys that want a hot truck can get any of them there anyway. The previous Tundra felt more quality by far. I just test drove all 5 full size and the Tundra rated next to Dodge at the bottom. Ford and Chevy are easily a few steps ahead with Nissan next followed by Dodge and Toyota. On top of that the thing looks like the previous Tundra with a bloating problem. As far as your gazillion hp special Tundra…yea so what for $10,000 you can make 500+ hp from the 5.4 3v at the rear wheels! Stick to your Toyota nascar crap.
By mb. June 18th, 2007 at 1:15 pmFord are a piece of crap you want to know what ford stand for?
By Shadao, president and CEO of Shadao Racing Inc.. May 10th, 2007 at 12:48 pmFix,Or,Repair,Daily
Good for Ford! And GM too. The F-series is a great product, and if any automakers needed some good news, it is Ford & GM. Keep it up guys, now just get back to building body-on-frame, V-8 true mid-size and full-size cars avaliable as coupes, convertibles, sedans, & station wagons, and you will be in business!
By Curious. May 5th, 2007 at 1:20 pmthe 2007 toyota tundra far surpassed the flimsy ford f-150 by a far comparison. News also leaked ” Accidently” by our employee about the new 2009 Toyota Tundra RZ with 590 hp @ 3600 RPM and 750 ft @ 2900 RPM with it derived 2JZ-GTE which power the legendary toyota supra.
By Shadao, president and CEO of Shadao Racing Inc. ( a team that fund NASCAR team such as BDR , Red Bull racing and Micheal watrip racing ). April 17th, 2007 at 1:23 pmToyota also ranked 2nd and fast approaching GM for the Top marker. while ford and the rest of their domestic cronies can only wathched in horror.
also toy guys have to stop living in the past, muscle car deid out decades ago stop having show were toy suped or fixed those broken down piece of junk on 4 wheel you called a car. I am an full blooded american who lived i Austin,Texas and is a nascar fan for 30 years and i agree that import are the car of the future of the automoble world not some 30+ years old car who gobble more gas than a hummer. so stop it with the this 09′camaro and 08′ challenger. these cars dead let them be. Toyota, Nissan, Honda are the new big 3 not the other 3 has been manufactures.
ford trucks have always been tougher despite there weak frame in 99 obviously a messed up vehicle. i have tested many trucks ford is by far tougher other manufacuers do good to use every now and then but when you put them to there maximum every day of the week they dont perform they start to break down (weaken stress springs) to where they cant haul nearly the weight. they are designed to use every now and then not every day. i can load my ford with maximum payload trailer weight etc every day of the week and they still keep working. they stay tough. ford has without a doubt had their issues. but every manufactuar does. ford has managed to overcome their issues and mistakes and make the finest trucks yet ford trucks without a doubt out perform all the rest when it comes to toughness and strengh. they keep going. not to mention keeping you comfortable. i always say if you want to haul 24,000 pounds and sit in a rolls royse then you belong in a f-450 king ranch 4×4. but its nice to know you have the others when you dont want to ride with the best. (GO BIG OR GO HOME)
By fordpowerf450. April 13th, 2007 at 7:59 pmYou also gotta love the ring-gear commercial in which gives you the impression that all other trucks use small ring gears. To bad most use a 9.5″ Dana spec rear, the same size as Toyota. Also, not to mention, as evident by the Ford 9″, a larger gear doesn’t mean more strength always.
By bassman97. March 27th, 2007 at 3:24 pmI would guess all of you have seen the stupid ad where the Tundra pulls a trailer up a steep grade (a ’see-saw’), and then barrels down hill and locks the brakes up just before the end of the ramp. Seen it? Yeah you have.
Couple things to keep in mind. The V.O. at the beginning of the spot says….”It’s tough pushing 10,000 lbs up a steep grade”. Myth: Toyota would like the audience to believe the trailer is 10,000 lbs. Fact: It’s a 5,000 lb truck pulling a 5,000 lb trailer. A little slight of hand? You bet.
Then, on the way down the grade, the camera zooms in on the brakes as the vehicles comes to a screeching halt just prior to the end of ramp. Next time you see the ad….look for the ‘mice type’. It indicates the trailer is equipped with electric brakes. Fact….the electric brakes stop the trailer — not the truck. A little slight of hand? You bet.
And why does Toyota have bigger brake pads? They need them….their truck is heavier. Stopping distance between our truck and theirs is virtually identical. And why does Toyota have a 6 speed transmission? To improve their fuel economy….which is still 2 mpg less than Ford.
Their big V8 has one axle ratio — a 4.3. Suck fuel much? Ford trucks offer several axle options to optimize towing and fuel economy.
The icing on the cake, Toyota rushed the engine development on their NEW V8 (by 6 months minimum. Its a matter of time til that time bomb goes off. And one thinks a back fire is bad. Atleast Ford issues recalls publicly, Toyota hides all of their recalls! Or trys its best to play them down like its no big deal, They have a great deal of americans suckered.
By Wildo. March 25th, 2007 at 3:18 pmIt still wont do well, this is the first time that Toyota has entered a redesigned vehicle and not received the car/truck of the year award. It does have its highs and certainly its lows, but overally its not worth me running to a dealership to give them my money. Certainly I wouldnt think of giving up my HEMI for that either. What I want to know was why are they practically giving them away in San Antonio with tons of incentives if supposedly they are going to do well. Seems to me like someone in Japan is saying “holy shiznit, I cant believe we are not doing as well as we thought especially with the track record that they have.”
By torinoracer. March 23rd, 2007 at 8:50 amToyota is still going to do well with the trucks. They have their act together and have a strategy planned for where they want to be the next 75 years. Ford has too narrow of a focus and only wants to brag about a profitable fiscal quarter. Maybe they can get some good management and build a more desirable lineup and spend some money in R&D rather than just trying to make stockholders happy.
Oh, and this will do little to Toyota’s reputation as Ford will get much more bad press regarding the flaming Powerstrokes they had to recall.
By Ted. March 22nd, 2007 at 1:25 pmWho cares about power. It means nothing unless you get moving which means for trucks, torque is king. In this aspect, the Ford engines out surpass all the competitors since the torque is almost flat and peaks down low (even though peak torque is lower than other engines like the Hemi). For example, the last gen F-150 made 350 ft-lbs at 2,500 rpm! That’s almost as good as diesels in low rpms (in terms low end torque production, though diesels produce a ton more). The major issue is yes, decent heads. The 4V heads are no doubt the best heads out of any auto maker but this isn’t good for trucks due to lack of low-end power. What Ford needs to do is to invest in a 2V head that flows just as good as the 3V heads or better so torque can maintained but power can go up. Maybe Ford can look into its past for insperation (as in, the 427 Cammer heads).
By bassman97. March 21st, 2007 at 7:51 pmGuys,
By Dunroin. March 21st, 2007 at 5:16 pmLets not forget the `99 model F-150 that was voted truck of the year and had the worst crash ratings do to the weak frame design. The crash test photos clearly showed the front fender pushed to the broken”A ” pillar , “All” glass was blown out and both doors blown open and the crash test “Dummy “did not servive ,from the report stated .
Don`t forget the cruise control recall either !
The thing thats killing ford now (and has been ever since gm introduced the gen III sb) is the lack of power offered by its gas engines. Hopefully Ford can get its act together, stop killing off and renaming its hurricane/boss engine program and get its ass in gear.
O, and I doubt Toyota’s claim to the highest HP light truck will soon evaporate. The new LS7 derived L92 heads GM now has are killer. Hell, even a lowly LS2, installed in everything from corvettes to trailblazers, is 20 hp ahead of Toyotas top offering (even though its down vvt, 3 cams, and 16 valves).
By Jeff. March 21st, 2007 at 3:41 pmThe crash test is a piece great news in these apparent dark times for FOMOCO. I think we’ve all seen the commercials on TV and you have to admit they’re creative but sometime creative imagination is involve too. I hope Ford just doesn’t sit back on their laurels and let everyone pass. They’ve just got to stay on top of it. Thinking out of the box wouldn’t hurt either.
By Mike Pliego. March 21st, 2007 at 1:34 pmI guess they are’nt built tough as the comercials proclaim. LMFAO!
This is the first of many bad things to come for that truck.
