Ford Doubles Warranties

Effective July 14, the powertrain limited warranty for 2007 Ford and Mercury vehicles will be five years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. That’s an additional two years or 24,000 miles of coverage for such components as the engine and transmission beyond each vehicle’s three-year or 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty. The new Ford warranties are 66 percent greater than all Chrysler Group and most GM nameplates.

For Lincoln, the powertrain coverage is now extended to six years or 70,000 miles – two years or 20,000 miles beyond the basic four-year or 50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. For all three brands, there are no deductibles for repairs, and the warranties are fully transferable to future owners at no cost.

The new Ford warranty programs are retroactive to the beginning of the 2007 model year, so customers who already have purchased a 2007 Ford, Lincoln or Mercury will automatically receive the added protection.

Ford and Lincoln Mercury also will offer complimentary roadside assistance for the entire basic and powertrain warranty period, including towing, fuel-fill and lock-out services. The Toyota, Scion and Honda brands don’t offer roadside assistance programs on new vehicle purchases, and the programs offered by the Chrysler Group, the Nissan brand and most General Motors brands expire after only three years or 36,000 miles.

  1. It’s no surprise Ford is able to extend the warranty to five or six years. There is a marked improvement in their products the last few years…Especially in the powertrains.

Seems like Ford has decided not to sell stuff unless they have confidence in the product.

That’s the same way the German and Japanese succeeded. It may take longer to gain market share back initially, but it will prove highly profitable over the long haul.

Judging from the fact that UPS is currently testing the hydraulic launch system in their trucks, added to the revelation that Parker-Hannifenn just bought the largest Japanese hydraulic parts manufacturer, I’m starting to believe there’s a diesel powered full hydraulic F-Series truck coming to my driveway soon.

If it averages 30mpg or better, I will be all the happier.

  2. Great — Love my 2006 Ford 500, probably the best overall car ford has ever built for the average consumer, just take one for a ride — Hopefully for me– Ford’s engineering was good enough in 2006 so that they were pretty confident of making this offer for 2007

  3. Beings IMPORTS do NOT offer programs like roadside assistance, How are they LEADING?

Kia and Hyundai both sucked when they came out. Thats why they HAD to put on a VERY big warranty.

Call Toyo or Honda when you get a flat! LMAO!

This also blows GM and DCX away in comparison. OnStar is cool if you choose to pay out of your pocket for it every month. Where roadside assistance is free.

Its a damn shame Ford keeps getting ripped on. But this time next year nearly 25% of total volume will be replaced with new models/chassis and people will still say it is’nt enough. And the year after 33%…

The only vehicle that is not up to par currently is the Focus. Which will be totally redone in 08.

Everything else is right on the money.

  4. About time they did this. My 2002 Lightning would still be under warranty and I wouldnt have had to pay 1200 for the extended. Good thing I did or I would be out 2 grand on repairs.

  5. Finally, What import manufactures have been doing all along.
How about a 10 year 100,000 on powertrain and a 5 year 60000 bumper to bumper??
Oh ’cause theyd go broke fixing all their cars.
THats what irritates me about my favorite manufacture.
They follow rather than lead. They take the road much traveled.
Why not be original and really offer something hot and exciting as well as offering the consumer a car with a warrenty that will be around a little after the last payment. Without having to pony up another 1200 for an extended warrenty.
Why lead rather than follow? Cause they are a bunch of ‘fraidy cats’.
Im afraid for Ford , I really am.

  6. Thanks for the tip!

  7. Figures, I bought a 2006 Freestyle about 3 months ago. Dang it!
