Ford Issues Major Recall

Ford recalled 3.6 million passenger cars, trucks, sport-utility vehicles and vans to fix a cruise control switch that led to previous recalls based on reports of fires.

Ford said the recall covered more than a dozen models built from 1992 to 2004. The company said it was responding to concerns from owners about the safety of their cars and questions about the speed-control deactivation switch, which is powered at all times.

Ford spokesman Dan Jarvis said the company received “a few reports of fires” in Crown Victoria passenger cars before the recall. He did not provide a precise number.

Editors Note: This is the first time (and likely the last) a Ford Ranger appears on the FordMuscle homepage!

The vehicles recalled are after the break:

1992-1997 Lincoln Town Car

1993 Ford F-Series pickups

  2. Merry Christmas everyone. This Christmas Eve is a loney one. All I have is Pictures of Christmas past. Last Year around this time Payton was killed, which now has been confirmed by experts, that this switch, INTERNALLY FAILED, killing my 22 year old Son like a bomb. A bomb that released toxic gas, collapsing and burning his lungs until all his body was charred , My beautiful son had NO FACE or hands. So Mr. Jarvis ( ford’s Spokesman) our family want’s to know why ? Why did Ford not recall my car? Was it over the 20.00 part? Or was it because you didn’t want to scare off your customers by having the largest recall in US history?
My family has been through so much pain this year, and The Ford Motor Company just continues to deny , and not take responsibility. Isn’t it enough that my son is dead? I will continue to warn people , and who knows maybe save someones life’ CNN and Fox and 60 min. are going to be covering the trail this spring in Texas. I want everyone to know the truth about how Ford deals with a crisis situation. The respond just like the faulty parts they put in the cars/trucks , they INTERNALLY FAIL

  3. 96 G.M. two window accuators $700, maf $670, plastic intake $880 . now no cruise control until next year.
2003 maurder defective wheel bearings , covered!
bad paint they saw nothing wrong, i paid.
who would put light grey primer on an all black car?
ford who else. now every stone chip shows like a spot light.. i`m stupid not them. next one foreign!.

  4. I have a 1996 grand marquise! Plastic intakes were on the recall I did not get one. I broke down 88 miles from home I was towed to a ford dealership that was a joke they walked by me as if I didn’t exsist. Told me to tent a car and go home!! They started out with over 1400.00 and could cost me more but how much more they didn’t know. I don’t think so I feel fords should have to pay for all parts and labor plus both towes. This was a recall problem they should have contacted me so I could have taken care of this before I broke down! At this time it is over 1400.00.

  5. Yeah, just what IS wrong with the Ranger? I was actually hoping for an article about the Ranger GT 5.0 from a few years back… I also saw a Ranger with a 2.3 Turbo out of an SVT Mustang… I think any Ford can be a performance vehicle, if you have an imagination… Wait til you get a load of my Tempo! :)

  6. I worked for the company that designed these switches plus the ignition switch , also a problem. The business was sold after the ignition switch recall. A mess! A lot of cars had these switches and not all had problems but there was enough too cause some headaches!

  7. I’m in the auto insurance industry and you would not believe the pic’s I’ve seen due to this issue. The most classic case I know off was a customer who had their F150 truck at the dealer for concerns about this exact issue and over night the truck caught fire in the service dept burning part of the Dealership and Ford denied that the switch was faulty. After long C/O investigation the swicht was found to be the cause. I love the Blue Oval but I’ve seen it to many times w/ Ford, they just don’t perform as well as other companies do about paying to fix faulty equipment. Sad to say but most times you have to sue..

  8. I am shocked and saddened by the editors disrespect for the Ford Ranger. A V8 in a Ranger is an easy swap and it weighs less than a Mustang. How about an article on that subject?

  9. What does
“The vehicles recalled are after the break: ”
    mean?

  10. editors note: i know the ranger is not a muscle car but i know of a couple that run in the 12’s using a modded 4.0

  11. Dan Jarvis ….. should contact me, if he cares about it’s customers. deliciadawn@yahoo.com
    www.PaytonsProject.org RIP Payton Tyler Lewis

  12. About time-this BS has been going on for almost 10 years-
and more than a few toasted homes too
