Perhaps it is because we don’t have much time to watch television over here at FordMuscle or maybe we’re just not paying much attention to Volkswagen promotions. Either way, the Volkswagen creative group or ad agency that came up with the spots referenced below hit the mark with us and we’re sure you’ll appreciate them too, if you have not already seen them. First take another look at Ford of Australia’s Falcon XR6 Turbo, then take a look at all three of Volkswagen’s “Un-Pimp My Ride” commercials.
Calling Ford Motor Company… Are you getting it yet? Make that Aussie Falcon XR6 Turbo available to us here in the United States and sell it to the masses with the creativity, balls, and sense of humor found in the Volkswagen “Un-Pimp My Ride” promotion. Those American Idol promos for the Fusion just aren’t cutting it.
I am an Australian and i own a BA XR6 Turbo and they are fast… my mates mustang 95 model with the 4.6 ltr v8 doesnt even stay close. My car is standard and runs a 13.4 0-400m with a K&N Filter and its a four speed auto. The New BF model (current model) has 245 kw 480 nm torque with a new 6 speed auto and they weight around 1640kgs.
By xlr8ford. May 23rd, 2006 at 3:41 amI was at Ford’s 100th in 2003. Ford AU had a Falcon XR6 Turbo and a Falcon XR8 Ute (think Ranchero) on display and the crowds swamped the 2 cars. They were a big hit. I know because I was parked by the cars and watched the crowds for 3 days. Those cars are the right size, have plenty of power and offer a manual transmission. The Ute was the more popular of the 2 cars and I would bet the US market is ready for a new Ranchero. But, that would mean Ford might sell something that competes with the F150. Hey Ford, wake up, gas is $3.15/gal and truck sales are in the tank! Offer the Falcon Ute as a Ranchero and drop the 300hp 4.6 in it with a 6spd manual AND the 6spd auto from the Australian market (that could be the Ranchero GT–remember those?). It would sell much better than the GTO IF you keep the starting price in the mid $20K range with decent standard features–like good seats from your European cars.
By Jason. April 25th, 2006 at 7:10 pmAfter the GTO debacle do you really think Ford would risk importing an Aussie platform?
Plus, the GTO had a big knock against it for bland styling. The smooth, euro look without enough personality to upold the brand image they were shooting for. Well, the Falcon suffers from the same weakness. Awesome engineering in a plain package.
Finally, bring over the Boss360 drivetrain and throw it into something that weighs lesss than 3500 lbs…
By Langley. April 21st, 2006 at 8:45 amThat Falcon has 328hp!! and 354ft lbs torque!!!!????
By 71hotrodpinto. April 20th, 2006 at 5:33 pmit ill never happen here , it would out class the mustang
But something needs to happen….Fast
I liked “Tray” the best in the one with the catapult.
By Clemson. April 20th, 2006 at 8:53 amWhy can’t they sell something like that Falcon here in the States? Heck, I’d be one of the first in line.
By NailBuster. April 20th, 2006 at 8:10 amThose commercials are friggin hilarious! I’ve seen like 2 or 3 different ones on TV over the past few weeks and they are great lol!
