The Detroit Free Press is reporting today that sales of foreign automobiles are on track to outsell domestic vehicles for the first time ever in the American market. Sales through May of this year indicate approximately 53% of cars registered by new owners are from the Japanese, Korean and European automakers compared to just 47% produced by Ford, GM, and Chrysler.
The data, produced by R.L. Polk & Co., however may be skewed because they consider Ford’s acquired brands, such as Volvo, Jaguar and Land Rover as imports. The same goes for GM’s Saab division. The data also excludes fleet sales.; sales of a large order of vehicles to government and corporations. With fleet data included the US automakers contribute to 55% of all automobiles sold in the US.

If we are going to consider ‘formerly foriegn’ cars american because an american compnay owns them, then does that mean Chrysler is German?
By Jeff. August 1st, 2006 at 11:36 pm(continued) and then they put a RE MANUFACTURED alternator on it thats only good for 12month 12000. Not a New one anymore (since 1997) after that its another 100 deductible.
By 71hotrodpinto. July 29th, 2006 at 12:01 pmWhat do the stockholders have to do with it?? Well when ford cut costs in 1997 this was one of the ways they did it. Rebuilt pieces on your car for warranty service.
Yes right now the stock is near worthless, but its still the same issues now. The ones that are still hanging around are still ultimately making the decisions.
Well as long as the stockholders continue to run the company (ford) and are getting there expected return this will continue.
By 71hotrodpinto. July 29th, 2006 at 11:24 amCase in point, My focus just went in for the alternator at 41,000 miles!!Ridiculous! And what does ford get?? $100 from me for my $1500 extended warranty
Waist of bandwidth IMHO.
