Cars have always had a magical pull on people, drawing together all different kinds of folks who share the same passion for automobiles. Car communities are among the tightest-knit clubs there are, and some auto clubs have been around for more than a century. The power of car clubs should never be underestimated, and when car guys get together, amazing things can happen.
Hemmings Auto Blog reports that the Pottstown Classic Car Club in Pennsylvania, in conjunction with shop Potstown Classics, helped restore a classic 1967 Ford Galaxie for an Army airborne Veteran who served tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Once again, car clubs come through, proving the strength of automotive communities.
Veteran Brad Herron served six and a half years in the service, and was rewarded with severe post-traumatic stress disorder. Herron bought a ‘67 Galaxie project car to restore, but was unable to make much progress on it, instead letting it sit in front of his condo complex.
Enter the Pottstown Classic Car Club, which worked with Pottstown Classics to restore the ‘67 Galaxie for Herron. PCCC held car shows, and Pottstown Classics rounded up sponsors to help bring this Galaxie back to life. The gearheads even pulled an Overhaulin’ on Herron, telling him his car had been towed before giving him his beautiful baby back.
The whole story was documented in part via video, and on a dedicated mini-website as well. PCCC thinks every car club should make an effort to adopt a veteran and help make their automotive dreams come true, and we couldn’t agree more. It is a nice change of pace for regular Americans to serve those soldiers who serve us.
