The Ford Fiesta never struck us as a particularly good racing platform. Then again, we aren’t Ford engineers, who managed to put together a $25,000 (including cost of car) B-Spec racing package for the Fiesta. If you were looking for a cheap way to get into serious racing, look no further than the Ford Fiesta.
Capaldi Racing took Ford up on the challenge, building a B-Spec racer and entering it into the inaugural Pirelli World Challenge B-Spec race at Miller Motorsports Park, taking home three pole positions, including a first place finish.
Behind the wheel of the No. 86 Fiesta was Craig Capaldi, who had very little wheel time in the Fiesta before arriving at Miller Motorsports Park for the opening race. Then again, Capaldi has won two national NASA championships behind the wheel of a Focus, definitely has experience on his side.
That experience paid off this past weekend, as Capaldi took his Fiesta to pole positions on all three of the weekend’s race. In the first and second contest, Capaldi finished in third place. But the last race of the day began with a standing start, and Capaldi was able to shoot out into first place and stay there.
Now when we look at a Fiesta, we can’t help but see the potential for a serious race car. Weird, but for $25,000, what other kind of race car are you going to buy?
