With the November announcement that the 2013 Shelby GT500 would be getting a 100 horsepower boost, and a top speed of 200 mph, this top-end Mustang officially entered supercar territory. Yet that left many people wondering; would its price increase to reflect this much more powerful Mustang?
Well we now have our answer. The 2013 Shelby GT500 will see its MSRP rise by about $5,000, with a new base price of $54,995. Yet even with a 10% price increase, the GT500 remains the cheapest 600+ horsepower car you can buy.
Of course, that’s just the base price, so we hopped on the Mustang configurator for ourselves. Ford has added a slew of new options for the 2013 Shelby GT500. For example, the new SVT Performance Package adds $3,495 to the price, while the glass roof option adds another $1,995. Tick off the $1,595 Recaro Seat and $1,295 Shaker Audio System, and you’ve got a $66,090 Shelby and a monthly payment $1,200.
And if you want a droptop Shelby? The starting MSRP is $59,995, and with all of the above options (minus the glass roof) our convertible GT500 would set us back $68,720. Yes, an almost $70,000 Mustang, straight from the Ford factory. Even so though, it remains a performance bargain among the high-priced, imported supercars who make as much horsepower for three or four times the price. We’ll take a $70,000 Shelby over a $250,000 Lamborghini any day.
