There are two things that can convince wealthy car collectors to part with their hard-earned money on an otherwise pedestrian car. For one, all collectors want to have something unique, something that no one else has. Combine that with a tax-deductible charitable donation, and the well-heeled have no problem opening their wallets and paying a premium price for a special ride.

So it’s no surprise to us that at this weekend’s Barrett-Jackson auction event in Las Vegas, a one of a kind bright orange 2014 Mustang Cobra Jet Prototype fetched $200,000 for charity. That’s about twice the MSRP of this one-off Mustang.

This turn-key race car is the pride of Ford Racing, and comes equipped with every feature you can ask for. This includes the supercharged 5.0 V8 engine, a T4 automatic racing transmission. as well as Recaro racing seats, a roll-cage, and even a parachute mount. This factory-built race car is ready to roll off the auction block and onto the drag strip.

Just 50 2014 Cobra Jet Mustangs were built, with most heading for the races and perhaps a handful to collector garages. This orange one is the only one of its kind, and it served as the test mule for the 2014 Cobra Jet program. Commanding more than twice the $97,990 MSRP, the money will go to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, as Ford continues its proud tradition of milking wealthy collectors with one-of-a-kind cars while helping out a good cause.
