The sun is setting on another generation of Ford Mustangs, a generation that many may argue is the best one yet. Yet the refreshed 2013 models have barely hit dealerships, and already we are hearing rumors about the 2014 Mustang models, set to be the last of the S197 line.

A post over at The Mustang Source reveals a number of changes to the 2014 Mustang model, mostly in the color and options category, that bids adieu to the current crop of Ford pony cars.

First, lets get the disappointing news out of the way; the Boss 302 Mustang will NOT be returning for the 2014 model year. Just like the original Boss, production is limited to just a couple of years. Sad, but we get it.

A couple of colors are also being replaced. Oxford White takes the place of Performance White, and Ruby Red replaces Red Candy. The V6 Mustang also gets a new “V6 Appearance Package” and hood stripe option for the 2014 model. THe base model Mustang GT also gets a “GT Appearance Package”, though what exactly that entails we don’t yet know.

As for the Shelby GT500, well matte black hood stripes replace the current crop of glossy stripes. Furthermore, the California Special will be limited to six color options; Deep Impact Blue, Oxford White, Ingot Silver, Black, Race Red, and Sterling Silver.

With all the excitement regarding the next-gen Mustang due in 2015, we were still expecting a bit more of an epic sendoff. No matter though, Ford is clearing holding it in for the new Mustang, and we can’t wait to see what they have in store.
