The debut of the 2015 Mustang has brought about many revelations, including the reveal of the long-rumored four-cylinder, 300-plus horsepower 2.3 liter EcoBoost engine. The new Mustang will be a global car, with high-tech standard features like push-button start and available adaptive cruise control that adjusts your speed based on cars around you.
There have also been rumors that the next Mustang could be stretched out to serve as a four-door as well. While Ford hasn’t said anything to these rumors of a Mustang sedan, Carscoops did come across this design by X-Tomi of a four-door Mustang…and it doesn’t look half bad.
Of course that’s just our opinion, though like it or not it might be an idea worth getting used to. Ford, like many automakers, is unifying their chassis designs across continents in a bid to cut down costs and increase brand unity. The Mustang has long been a North American model that didn’t have any other models spun off of it. But adding a pair of doors could mean a new performance sedan for Ford’s lineup, and it isn’t like Ford hasn’t considered the idea before.
It wouldn’t necessarily be a Mustang either. Lincoln is in desperate need of a performance flagship, a big bold sedan to give the brand something worth talking about, and a competitor from competition both domestic and global. Bring back the Lincoln Mark series, luxe it out with all sorts of fancy wood veneers and a panoramic roof, and real performance numbers and we think the boomers will start lining up to buy one.
What do you think? Will this be the generation of the Mustang to yield a four-door model?
