The NASA American Iron racing series sees modern domestic muscle cars compete with each other on road courses that would have thrown their precursors for a loop. Most of the cars in this racing series are Mustangs or Camaros, based on the latest-generation body styles. It doesn’t make for a whole lot of diversity on the racetrack, though one outfit is looking to insert some classic flair into the series.
Agent 47 Racing is using a genuine 1969 Mustang as the basis for their American Iron entry. While very much a work-in-progress, Mustangs Daily was on hand to snap pictures of the progress thus far of this classic badass race car called the Harbringer X2.
This car is a follow-up to the original Harbringer, which debuted back in 2010 in the American Iron series. Unlike the Harbringer 1.0, which utilized a Dynacorn-built brand new Mustang body, the Harbringer X2 uses a genuine ‘69 Mustang as its chassis. Of course to be able to compete at the level with the other cars, this required a serious level of modification to the 45-year old classic.
Powering this reborn classic is a new BOSS 302 V8 equipped with an air intake co-developed by Agent 47 and K&N. The SLA front suspension setup was also of Agent 47’s design, and is similar to the setup on their SN95 Mustang. Of course the race car also still needs finishing in the form of flared front fenders, hood, grille, and a windshield.
The team expects to be hitting the track early next month, and we can’t wait to see how it compares to the modern entries that currently dominate the series.
