Gaming nerds and muscle cars seem like they are on opposite ends of the cool spectrum, but the fact is these days is that nerds pretty much drive popular culture. The Ford Mustang has always been an important part of American pop culture, and these days video games are just as, if not more important to our nation’s culture.
So we’re not surprised to learn that gaming convention QuakeCon will be giving away a Shelby GT500 Mustang. As Complex Gaming reports, that odds are even in your favor, as just 100 tickets will be given out through contests and other events at the massive LAN party in Dallas, Texas.
What the hell is a LAN party? It’s basically a bunch of computer nerds linking their gaming rigs together and competing for some high-paced, lag-free video gaming. There’s a lot of clicking, consumption of energy drinks, and the occasional poor-tempered freakout. The QuakeCon convention is named after the first-person shooter Quake, which in many ways helped shaped today’s blockbusters shooters like Modern Warfare and Halo.
But back to the Mustang; with just 100 tickets being given out, the odds of winning the 2012 Shelby GT500 (yes, 2012, sorry for the letdown) are incredibly good. A 550 horsepower Mustang is a pretty exciting prize for any gaming nerd, and it might even make them attractive to the opposite sex…at least for a little while. Hopefully this year the winning ticket won’t be sold to someone else for just $200…
