The annual Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Show, or SEMA, brings together the top car customizers from around the country. And getting a car into SEMA isn’t just some simple affair; first you’ve got to have a car to show off, and floor space isn’t exactly cheap. There are also the logistics of getting said vehicle to the show, and you better hope you don’t have to pay to take the elevator to the second floor…
In other words, it ain’t cheap. So what’s the next best thing? How about a virtual rendering of your dream SEMA car? That’s what CoolFords.com did…and you know what? Not bad. Not bad at all.
The virtual car they choose to represent them was of course the 2012 Mustang BOSS 302 Laguna Seca Edition. Outside of the Shelby GT500, this is the top-of-the-line Mustang. Rather than create a model from scratch, CoolFords teamed up with RPM-3D, a company that specializes in motorsports graphics.
RPM-3D utilized a licensed virtual model, and proceeded to customize it to CoolFord’s specifications. This is a little more in-depth than the Mustang Customizer that Ford has on its website. And just like that, CoolFords has its own SEMA show car. Sure, it doesn’t really exist…but maybe one day, they will get there. Until then, they’ve got their little slice of the virtual world.
