We often highlight on these pages all of the customized Mustangs that go up for auction at events put on by the likes of Barrett-Jackson. While many a customized Mustang is built and sold for the sole purpose of profit and fun, many of these cars serve a higher purpose; that purpose being notable charities, from Wounded Warriors to preventing childhood disease.

One Mustang in particular has lived its life for the charity circuit. The Shadrach Platt & Payne Mustang, which started life as a 2005 GT, has been bought and sold numerous times over the past few years for charity. It has also been upgraded in every way, including a supercharged engine and a slick suspension. Once again, it is hitting the Barrett-Jackson auction block for a noble cause.

Built to honor drag racing legends and NHRA Hall of Famers Hubert Platt and Randy Payne, this customized, one-off Mustang was first sold back in 2009 for an impressive $190,000. The buyer then donated to the Darrell Gwynn Foundation, for whom it was originally built.

It was then sold again, this time for $105,000, before being donated back to the Darrell Gwynn Foundation once more. The Darrell Gwynn Foundation provides support for those dealing with paralyzing injuries, and works to prevent further spinal cord trauma. When it heads to auction this weekend, this heavily-modified Mustang should easily bring over six-figures, continuing to help raise money for a noble cause.

Though the collector car market isn’t quite what it used to be, when it comes to charity, many buyers seem to be able to dig a little deeper. Besides, how many 2005 Mustangs do you see with an engine sticking through the hood and side exhausts? Not many, that’s for sure!
