The Pro-Touring movement has seen a massive migration of motorheads moving from the art of Concours restoration into creating a more drivable car. Anyone who has ever had to fight a fussy carburetor and endure a poorly-paved road in a classic muscle car knows how uncomfortable and demanding these cars can be. No wonder the trend of modernizing cars like the classic Mustang have caught on.
Up on eBay is a prime example of a Pro-Touring Mustang, owned by Tim Grillot, one that has graced the pages of many a magazine. With a turbocharged, all-aluminum 4.6 liter V8 under the hood and an awesome aftermarket suspension, this 1965 Mustang is ready for the streets of the 21st century.
Utilizing just a single turbocharger, this lightweight engine sent 573 horsepower to the rear-wheels via a Tremec TKO 5-speed manual. Out back is a Ford 9-inch with Detroit TruTrac with 3:50 gears, and the suspension setup comes from the hotrod specialists at Heidts. This is a Mustang that can drag race as well as it can autocross.
As far as exterior modifications go, this Mustang went the less-is-more route. Save for a custom-fabricated steel teardrop hood scoop, there aren’t even any racing stripes on the Pro-Touring Mustang. The interior also got a 21st century makeover, although again, the changes are subtle, as opposed to obvious, like new gauges, a pistol-grip shifter, and a CD player.
It’ll cost you $89,900 to get behind the wheel of this Pro-Touring badass, but if you ask us, it is worth every penny.
