With the return of the Boss 302 to the modern Mustang lineup, a lot of emphasis has been on the history of Ford’s mighty small block V8. But back in “the day,” if you really wanted to make big horsepower, the only option was to go big block. So in addition to the Boss 302, Ford also offered the more-powerful Boss 429 Mustangs. These cars now command a huge premium, especially when they show up on eBay.This particular ‘69 Boss 429 Mustang on eBay has low miles, just around 2,200 miles in over 45 years on the road. Even after reaching a price of over $175,000 though, it still didn’t meet its reserve price…and for good reason.
Fewer than 900 Boss 429 Mustangs were built during the 1969-70 production run, and many of those saw a hard life as a quarter-mile drag racer. Natural attrition took its toll, and many of these cars were torn apart and parted out at the end of their racing life. But not this one.
