eBay Find of the Day: Garage Kept, 1-Owner ‘68 Shelby

With the recent passing of the legendary Carroll Shelby, the already-valuable cars bearing his name have suddenly shot up in both value and interest. Cars that have not seen the light of day for decades are suddenly popping up on classic car for-sale websites, and all sorts of Shelby memorabilia is making the rounds across the Internet.

Over on eBay are a number of Shelby’s up for sale, including this one-owner 1968 Shelby GT500 that has been stuck in a garage for the past 31 years.

The original owner bought this ‘68 Shelby GT500 droptop after trading in her ‘65 GT350. The car was reportedly regularly driven until 1981, when a replacement small-block V8 provided lackluster performance compared with the original big-block (which blew up). The original engine DOES come with the sale, though the car has some rust, and is not currently running.

Then again how many 53,000 mile, garage kept, one-owner ‘68 Shelbys are out there? Not many, we’d wager, though the reserve price hasn’t even been hit yet despite a high bid of over $55,000. And that’s just the start. A proper restoration of this Shelby would run well over a $100,000, it not more. After that though, the sky is the limit when it comes to asking price. What does Carroll Shelby’s death mean for the value of lost cars like this one?
