After a weekend of warm weather, the winter cold is back for at least one last brutal blast before giving away to spring. Temperatures are well below freezing across much of the midwest and northeast, and there’s still snow on the ground in many places. Many Mustang owners have had to put their pony cars away since December, and any hope we had of an early spring has been dashed with this latest “arctic vortex.”
But Ford wants to let you know that with the right upgrades (and a confident driver), your Ford Mustang can handle the winter weather just fine.
Mustang Club of America Treasurer Chris Hall went the obvious route for his Mustang V6, adding a set of tire chains to the rear wheels when the weather gets rough. With the addition of some extra weight in the trunk, Hall’s V6 Mustang had no trouble navigating the nine-inches of snow that fell during one of his many drives; in less than a year, the MCA Treasurer has racked up more than 11,000 miles.
While it’s bold to drive a Mustang V6 through nine inches of snow, Ford’s own Jameel Hameedi drives his Shelby GT500 Mustang through Detroit’s worst weather on a daily basis. The only modifications he makes are a set of winter tires, switching for the summer to all-seasons. “It’s awesome – people look at me like I’m crazy in the middle of a Detroit winter – driving a 662-horsepower car.” You are crazy Jameel…crazy awesome. So we want to know, do you park your Mustang in the winter or do you get that horse out and ride no matter what the weather conditions?
