Ever since its commercial debut, Hollywood has been head-over-heels in love with the Ford Mustang. The Mustang has been featured in literally thousands of movies, and it has been the unofficial “star” of many American movie classics, from Bullitt to Gone in 60 Seconds to the upcoming Need for Speed movie starring Aaron Paul and a custom Shelby GT500.
Late Model Restoration put together a neat infographic looking at the most-famous movie Mustangs of the past 50 years. It’s a subjective list to be sure, but it’s hard to argue with some of their assertions.
Obviously, any list of the most-famous movie Mustangs is going to include Frank Bullitt’s green 1967 fastback. Another obvious choice is the 1971 Mustang that starred in the 40-minute chase scene that was the highlight of the original Gone in 60 Seconds. The 1967 Shelby GT500 from the 2000 remake is also on the list, a star of its own epic chase sequence.
But then there are some other questionable choices, like the 1976 Mustang II Cobra from Charlie’s Angels, though Farrah Fawcett in a Mustang is pretty awesome. But the modified Fox-body Mustang was on screen for like, five seconds in Back to the Future II, and it still looked like a Fox-body Mustang, -hardly a show stopper.
Check out the rest of the list for yourselves, and feel free to contribute your own movie Mustangs to the list.
