We’ve been waiting anxiously for the third installment of Ken Block’s infamous Gymkhana series. Block started a bit of a cultural revolution with his rally racing antics performed on closed courses and involving dozens of cameras catching the action from different angles. Gymkhana is now a part of the national consciousness (at least when it comes to motorsports). Finally, Gymkhana 3 is here.
Or at least the first part is. Unlike previous Gymkhana’s, this is being split into three separate segments. The first segment is heavy on the rap flow and low on actual drifting, though there some good action and much higher production values.

The last Gymkhana was a bit like Jackass (the TV show), in that it had a rough-around-the-edges feel to the production values. Gymkhana 3 is a lot more polished, and we give Block credit for coming right out and stating that this is indeed an advertisement for his company, DC Shoes. This time Gymkhana features music, rather than the brutal sounds of a popping turbo and squealing tires. Rap artists The Cool Kids spit their rhymes as Block does donuts around them.
The video is brief, and there are comparatively few stunts during the four minutes. Block knocks a ladder holding a can of paint over, drifts around The Cool Kids, and busts through some hanging fluorescent tubes (which looks awesome in slow motion). There is also a lot of hot chicks dancing under black lights…and we can dig that. Still, we are left wanting more, which means Gymkhana 3: Part I did its job. We look forward to Part II and Part III.
