While some critics and writers have been wary of Lincoln’s so-called “revival”, consumers are responding with their wallets to the redesigned Lincoln MKZ. MKZ sales have broken records two out of the last three months, and reviews have praised the powerful engine, smooth ride, and high-quality of the latest Lincolns.
However, there is still something missing from the Lincoln lineup if you ask us, and no we aren’t going to harp on the lack of a Mustang-based Lincoln again. Rather, we think Lincoln needs a coupe model, and why not base it on the MKZ? Carscoops put together a rendering of a two-door Lincoln MKZ coupe, and it looks impressively fearsome for a Lincoln.
Unlike many luxury brands, Lincoln has a long history of performance coupes, especially the Mark series of land yachts. The Lincoln LSC Mark VII and Mark VIII were especially popular with buyers looking to inject a little excitement into their luxury ride, and a two-door MKZ powered by the 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6 would almost certainly turn some heads.
Even if Ford just upped the output on the stout 3.7 liter V6, that’d be perfectly acceptable, though a 365 horsepower Lincoln coupe would definitely get speed freaks to take notice. Aftermarket outfits have already tweaked and tuned the EcoBoost motor to 400 horsepower or more, and Lincoln could still use an exciting car that gets buzz going around the brand.
But what do you think? Is an EcoBoost MKZ coupe the kind of car you’d ever be interested in driving?
