It’s here, it’s here, it is finally here! This week is the opening of the 2012 SEMA Show, and we’ll be bringing you all of the sights and sounds from the showroom floor LIVE. But before we can start showing off the goodies from the floor, there are a few more items we want to preview ahead of the opening…just we can tease you for a few more hours.

One of the most exciting cars on the SEMA floor this year will be the Mustang Mach 40, a mid-engine masterpiece that combines two of Ford’s most iconic vehicles into a single mind-blowingly-awesome vessel of horsepower and style.

Built by Eckerts Rod Shop, the Mach 40 is an original take on the 1969 Ford Mustang, and while it looks like a combo-classic, it’s all modern beneath the skin. A supercharged 5.4 liter V8 is stuffed under the hood, using modern drive-by-wire technology. This technology comes from a 2006 Ford GT, upon which this wild project was based. Yup, you’re seeing a ‘69 Mustang molded from a 2006 Ford GT.

That’s cool, and it only gets cooler. The 5.4 liter engine is flex-fuel capable, meaning it can run blends of up to 85% ethanol. Horsepower goes from 600 ponies to 850 at the push of a button, and the concept is one of the most unique brought to SEMA in a long time. Sure, it may not be super-new, but the execution looks flawless, and hopefully it will inspire similar creativity in other aftermarket shops.
