We all dream of enjoying our golden years to their fullest. Whether it is just spending time with family or traveling the world, we hope that we will be healthy enough to realize our dreams. For Lennart Ribring of Sweden, he recently celebrated his birthday behind the wheel of a new Race Red Mustang.
“…I’m 97-years-old. I drive a 5.0-liter V-8 Ford Mustang fastback and I’m really happy,” he says in the video above.

I fell in love with the first Mustangs that came out and I have hardly thought about another car sinceLennart earned his driver’s license at 18 years old back in 1937, and he eventually was one of the first people in Europe to buy a ’60s Mustangs. These days he easily bought one in Europe, where the car is now officially for sale. He might well be one of the few to buy the car back then and now. Likewise, he might now be one of the oldest Mustang drivers on earth.
“I fell in love with the first Mustangs that came out and I have hardly thought about another car since. You felt a bit like king of the road.” Lennart enthused. “I don’t have long to live now, maybe. So, I want to take the opportunities I have to drive and have a little fun in life. This is the real thing.”
Though he is a retired business owner, he still works part-time as an accountant. Clearly staying active and driving a new Mustang will keep you going as you approach triple digits on your personal odometer.
“I would encourage younger drivers to let their porridge cool down first,” Lennart advised. “Learn about a car properly before you drive it. You must always think about safety.”
We can only hope we are able to drive a new Mustang well into our 90s. Lennart is our new hero.
