Back in the 1950s and 1960s, nobody gave a second thought about selling or scrapping old race cars. After all, who wanted to hang on to a beat-up jalopy, even if it did win a few races? These days though those old race cars bring big bucks, and teams aren’t quite so cavalier about tossing aside their race cars for a song and a dance.
Mustangs Daily came across this RacingJunk ad for the Rehagen Racing Boss FR500C Mustang. A successor to the road-racing Boss 302 Mustangs competing today, this particular car managed to win the Grand Am GS-class back in 2009. Now it can be yours for just $59,900.
Built on a 2005 Mustang GT chassis, the FR500C was a serious effort on the part of Ford to compete in the international racing scene. Rehagen has been racing their car for most of the past ten years, and in 2009 driers Dean Martin and Ken Wilden piloted the #59 car to a GS class victory.
But victory does not mean retirement, and even with the new Boss 302R and 302S models available, Rehagen kept campaigning ol’ reliable. Eventually a newer 5.0 Cammer engine was installed, and the sale claims the engine has low hours. A rebuilt FR500C gearbox and Torsen T2R differential back up the beefy motor, and as you might imagine this race car is fully equipped with top-of-the-line gear from front to back.
If you’re looking to enter the world of Grand Am racing, this veteran Mustang might be your best bet. For $59,900, would you take the plunge?
