Richard Petty autographs the asphalt with his 727HP ’Stang

With seven NASCAR championships under his prodigious belt buckle, Richard Petty must really need something special to get his adrenaline pumping. Fortunately he has his own series of custom Mustangs that range from mildly upgraded to bold and boosted. Recently, he grabbed the keys to one of these cars to film a little promotional video and the smoke started to billow.

“These new King edition Mustangs are pretty much the way I’d build my own. They are great fun to drive, and have a signature single exhaust,” Richard Petty said when the King Editions were introduced.

That’s plenty of oomph to smoke the tires (obviously) and it sure looks like the King had a blast driving one of his subjects.

If you aren’t familiar with the King’s custom Mustang, his company Petty’s Garage partnered with Ford to produce three different models—King Edition, King Premier and 80^th Tribute Edition—based on the Mustang GT and another entry-level edition that starts with an EcoBoost ’Stang.
