With all of the excitement surrounding the next-generation 2015 Mustang coming out next year, it can be easy to lose focus on the last decade of awesome muscle cars. When it debuted in 2005, the S197 Mustang stood without equal, king of the hill, with nary a rival in sight. Ford didn’t grow complacent, and the return of the Shelby GT500 helped usher in a new era of horsepower wars among the Big Three.
We’re glad to see that Shelby has remembered the early S197 Mustangs, and despite the drastic design change for the 2010 model year, the 2005-2009 models still have a lot of fans. No wonder Shelby rolled out this new widebody kit for the 2005-2009 Mustangs, and at a surprisingly affordable price. At least for a Shelby.
Whether you are stuck driving a humdrum Mustang V6 with the ol’ boat anchor 4.0, or the 300 horsepower 4.6 liter V8 that was doing burnout duty in some form or another since the mid-90s, it’s a fact that the Ford Mustang has come a long, long way. The wide body kit is not limited to being compatible with only GT500 cars, so if your 2005-09 Mustang might be slower than the current crop of pony cars, at the very least this new Shelby widebody kit can help you look fast if you’re willing to shell out the cash to install it.
For $3,999, you can get the rear-quarter panel package, which adds an extra 6-inches per fender, allowing wheels up to 13-inches in width to installed on your Mustang. Adding the front quarter-panels jacks the price up to $5,999, and allows wheels up to 10-inches wide to be installed. This kit will definitely appeal to drag racers and show car owners alike, and it could be the cheapest way to give your Mustang some genuine Shelby flair.
