The Tremec 6-speed manual transmission has been the only option for Ford’s Shelby GT350 Mustang since it became available in 2015. However, a recent rumor reported by the folks at Mustang6G.com has shed some light on the possibility of the GT350 getting a dual-clutch automatic transmission. Whether that would be a 6-speed or a 7-speed remains to be seen, but we are hoping to see something like this as a future offering on the Shelby GT350.
Chris Perkins of Road and Track talked about how this relates to other track-focused competition for the Ford Mustang, “Porsche, Ferrari, BMW, and McLaren all use dual-clutch gearboxes for their most hardcore track-oriented offerings,” he said. Perkins also mentioned the 7-speed automatic transmission that is present in the Ford GT, but said that, “we have no way of knowing whether this car’s transmission could be made to fit the Mustang.” It seems sensible to take advantage of a performance oriented automatic transmission – one that Ford already has access to, as opposed to developing something entirely new; so this sounds to be the likely direction.

The Ford GT’s 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission may make an appearance in the Shelby GT350 Mustangs.
For all of you that are getting excited about this news – take it with a grain of salt. At this point, these are still just rumors. Mustang6G.com does however claim to have some evidence of this, though it does not mean this is a for sure thing. Even if they do have credible and accurate information that Ford is considering this, it is important to keep in mind that auto-makers consider things all of the time. And sometimes, they never come to fruition for the general public’s use.
We will keep you posted as we continue to learn more about the potential dual-clutch automatic transmission that could be coming to the Shelby GT350. We want it just as bad, if not worse, than you do. Keep a close eye on our site, and we’ll do our best to keep you informed and in the loop.
