The Ford Mustang has always been a popular vehicle for promotions, giveaways, and a seemingly endless train of “special editions” catering to just about every demographic. But there are some special edition Mustangs even we haven’t heard of, including the rare and elusive “7-Up Edition” version Mustang. We only heard about it because one of these oddball Mustangs was stolen from Colorado Springs, Colorado, and the act was caught on tape.

Jalopnik reports via KKTV that around 3 a.m. last week, a heavy-handed thief stole a 1990 7-Up Edition Mustang, busting through the convertible top and really messing up the car in an attempt to steal it. What a bastard.

The incident happened at The Insurance House in Colorado Springs, where Trisha Moynihan had parked her 1990 Mustang in its green-and-white livery. The thief stole the Mustang not by quietly stealing it, but by brute-forcing his way into the vehicle, no doubt wrecking the convertible top and some of the interior.

Only about 4,100 of these 7-Up Edition Mustangs were ever built, and they were originally meant to be given away at basketball games for people who could make a half-court shot. Realizing that this was easier said than done, 7-Up and Ford seemed to have settled on selling these interesting-looking Mustangs to anybody who wanted one, rather than making them some sort of prize.

Whether that means they truly qualify as rare or valuable is in the eye of the beholder, but regardless, we hope this thief gets what is coming to him, and Trisha gets her family’s Mustang back. Sentimental value is something you can’t put a dollar sign on.
