Some people are born with high-octane fuel for blood, or so it seems. Travis Pastrana is one such person, growing up with a motorcycle between his legs much of the time. Eventually he graduated to driving cars, both in motorsports competitions and as a stunt driver. Last year Pastrana even had nine starts in the NASCAR Nationwide series.
This year though Travis Pastrana will make the move to NASCAR full time according to a press release from Ford Racing. He will be starting all 30 races this year in the Roush-Fenway Mustang.
Pastrana is no stranger to motorsports. He has won multiple ESPN X-Games titles, as well as being a four-time rally champion and winning many motocross titles as well. Last year was Pastrana’s first time racing professionally in a NASCAR series, and of the nine races he started, his best finish was fifth-place…quite respectable for a rookie.
Pastrana will be paired with veteran crew chief Chad Norris, who will hopefully help ease the NASCAR newbie into his new role as a full-time driver. Pastrana has certainly been keeping busy, but does he have the endurance to make it in the Nationwide series? 2013 is already shaping up to be an interesting year in NASCAR, and Pastrana’s presence may help draw more younger viewers to the sport.
