The Ford Motor Company is more than just an automaker for the residents of Detroit and the surrounding area. It is an entity that supports innumerable charities, events, and organizations that serve the greater public good. Perhaps nowhere is this more evident than the Henry Ford Hospital, which provides literally hundreds of millions of dollars in free health care to low-income Michigan residents while operating one of the busiest emergency rooms in the state.
To help support that great work of the Henry Ford Hospital, Melvin Betancourt, a one-time patient at the hospital, was tasked with creating a unique Mustang to benefit the hospital’s cardiovascular care and research unit. The Mustang News reports that this will be the second time through the auction block for this unique Shelby.
You may remember this car from when it was first sold back in September for the same purposes; to benefit the Edith and Benson Ford Heart & Vascular Care institute. With a unique white-on-white-on-white paint treatment, Betancourt created one of the most unique-looking Shelby GT500s on the planet. Just finding a Shelby without racing stripes is a rarity; finding an all-white model is all but impossible unless you go custom.
And go custom is just what Betancourt did. On the inside on white leather Recaro racing seats stitched with a black contrast that goes well with the white 20-inch wheels. Yet we have a feeling this car won’t stay in any one collection for long. Instead it is already on a mission of raising money for a worthy cause, and it will hopefully stay that course for years to come, being bought and re-donated over and over again in an effort to bring life-saving treatments to more and more people.
Yup, this is one charitable Mustang.
