As the Year of the Horse comes to a close in China, the year of the Mustang has just begun all over the world. One way to celebrate is to travel far from the land of Detroit Iron and overseas to the city of Ordos in Inner Mongolia to unleash some serious hooning and tire slaying.
Thanks to Ford Racing, we get to see none other than drift champ Vaughn Gittin Jr. behind the wheel of the new 2015 Mustang, sliding it around the empty streets of Ordos, Inner Mongolia, and leaving a wake of burnt rubber and smoke behind. He is joined by the Horsemen of Ordos to make this sweet video.
As it turns out, Ford likely didn’t have to rope off these desolate streets to let Vaughn Gittin Jr. do his usual thing. In fact, Ordos is pretty much completely abandoned and well-known as a “ghost city” with only 2 percent of the houses actually occupied. Large construction projects loom all over the city, and they were left as is when money ran out before completion.
So, we say goodbye to the Year of the Horse, and hello to the Year of the Goat (as of last week). At least we bid the year farewell in utmost style. What better way to use a spacious, empty five-lane highway for some awesome drift footage?
