Some days we can’t help but wonder if there really is such a thing as “fast enough”. For all practical purposes, a top speed of 100 mph is pretty much the high end of driving, even on limitless roads like Germany’s Autobahn. When we watch a Top Fuel dragster scorch to 300 mph in a ¼ mile, it almost seems absurd.

But there is nothing absurd about Mark Heidaker’s Hennessey-tuned Ford GT. Packing two turbochargers and 2,000 horsepower, this Ford GT set a record 257 mph pace back in March at the Texas Mile. Now we have another video of that same car, once again driven by Sean Kennedy, hitting the 212.9 mph in the standing half mile.

Now if you ask us, there is something a little bit cooler about driving home a 2,000 horsepower, 200+ mph Ford GT than trailering home a Top Fuel dragster. Being able to go well over 200 mph in just a half-mile of running room in a street legal car? That’s nearly unbelievable.

We’re not sure this is the kind of racing Ford intended for the nostalgia-dripping GT…but we can’t argue with the end result. We wonder how long it is before cars start cracking the 300 mph benchmark?
