It’s no secret that Jay Leno is a big fan of the Ford Performance Shelby GT350R. When Ford announced its launch at the Detroit International Auto Show back in January of 2015, you can bet that Jay had his eye on securing one of these track-ready beasts to add to his impressive collection of vehicles.

Fast forward to February of 2016, and sure enough, Jay Leno was revealed as one of the 37 lucky owners of the 2015 Shelby GT350R. Ford only produced 37 of the R-model Shelbys that year. What makes the number 37 so special was that it represented the number of original Shelby GT350Rs built by Carroll Shelby back in 1965.

Well this month, Jay got the chance to speak with David Salvaggio, Vice President of Speedkore Performance Group, to talk about the company’s fully customized 2016 Ford GT350R. At first glance, many of us would assume that this was just your “average” Shelby.

But what makes this particular vehicle so unique is the exterior. Its factory body panels were completely replaced with carbon fiber! Everything from the quarter panels to even the roof was converted shedding a significant amount of weight to an already impressive track-ready race car.

Even Jay, whose collection of exotics sports cars feature similar carbon-fiber elements, was impressed, and in this episode, he gives viewers the chance to hear from the Speedkore VP about the advantages of outfitting your next track car with carbon fiber.

And while it’s not cheap to have your Shelby converted to carbon fiber, (Speedcore estimates about $70,000 for the entire vehicle), the lightweight advantages at the track could give you the edge on the competition come track day. That, and it looks pretty badass as well!
