We’ve been really patient, waiting for Gymkhana 3 (ok, not really). A form of aggressive driving/drifting made popular by one Ken Block, it is a series of viral videos that take the Internet by storm. While the first two videos stared block in a Subaru WRX, this is the first Gymkhana to star his new Ford Fiesta. And the video doesn’t take any prisoners.
Proceeded by a teaser music video a few weeks ago, this is finally the real deal, with over six minutes of tire-popping, rubber burning, and bouncing off of the rev limiter. That is one tough, tiny car.
Whereas previous two Gymkhana videos took place at an airport and a shipping port, this video was actually shot on a track. Not just any track though. It was at the French l’Autodrome de Linas which has, among other obstacles, a 51-degree, 1.5 mile banked oval turn. This would turn out to have a great impact on the video, which makes astounding use of the whole facility (and even features a Segway).
We can’t get enough of the sound of this Fiesta. It may lack the guttural grunt of a V8, but it isn’t lacking in power. In fact, the video gives us some really cool stats, like that this Fiesta makes 650 horsepower and 660 ft-lbs of torque…at the wheels. With its all-wheel drive, that translates into a 0-60 mph time of 1.9 seconds. 1.9 seconds! That is one serious race car. Enough rambling though; watch the video get ready to be blown away, as Block does not disappoint.
