For the rental car company HERTZ, stocking their fleet with high-performance and highly sought after vehicles is not a new thing. In fact, back in the 60s, HERTZ introduced the rental car world to the HERTZ Mustang rental option. But these days, the cars aren’t just limited to pony cars, although one very proud Mustang is still leading the pack. Check it out in this week’s episode of Shakedown above.

Introduced in the mid 60s, the HERTZ Mustang brought a new vision to rental cars. Not only did this car increase the performance aspect of a vacation car, it also sparked road races and drag races with the famed car, and/or its engine.

Of course, we’ve all heard those stories by now.

Back in 2006-2007, HERTZ reintroduced their specialty rental Mustang, bringing back design ques from the original pioneers in the rental Mustang territory. This latest edition of the HERTZ Mustang is a little different.

Part of the Adrenalin Collection, the new HERTZ Mustang is in correspondence with Penske Racing. Following in the NASCAR Mustang’s shoes, the new rental car is finished in black exterior paint with a distinct off-center racing stripe in yellow down the driver’s side. The car also features special badging, documentation of its rarity (only 150 were created) and the Mustang’s upgraded, optional Recaro seat-wielding interior.

But the latest HERTZ Stang is much more than a unique look. In fact, the 150-car fleet features upgraded air intakes and engine management programs, a performance suspension, body kit for improved looks and aerodynamics, a lowered stance, an upgraded rear axle with 3.55 rearend gears and Brembo brakes.

Basically, the HERTZ Penske GT is a highly-upgraded Mustang with about $4,500 in additional Ford Racing components. But don’t consider it available to rent for long! HERTZ will only have this Mustang option available for eight to ten months. 

While the rental Stang is certainly impressive on paper, it’s even more impressive on the track. But don’t take our word for it. Check it out in the video above to see for yourself!
