During the 1980’s, there emerged a new form of motorsport known as “Group B” rally racing. This new set of regulations introduced in 1982 made for some of the fastest, wildest racing action ever seen in the modern era, and few cars were as notoriously wild as the Ford RS200. Ford barely built any of these cars for public purchase, and Group B rally racing was abandoned not long after its introduction, making these cars true relics of a bygone era.

This video, from eGarage.com, showcases two owners of these fantastic cars who currently reside in America. Our only criticism…why no engine sounds?

As the video notes, just 45 road-going versions of the Ford RS200 were ever built. With a 1.8 liter four-cylinder producing 250 horsepower in road form, these little coupes dusted the competition. With all-wheel drive, a light curb weight, and superior aerodynamics, the RS200 showed what Ford was capable of when left to its own devices.

Unfortunately, due to several high-speed and high-profile fatal accidents on the Group B circuit, the new regulations were scrapped in 1986. Even so, the RS200 remains one of the most highly-regarded race cars of all time, and collectors pay top dollar for these rare vehicles. It’s a shame that the eGarage video didn’t include any soundbites of the car itself…so we included the video below of some vintage Group B rally footage, including the Ford RS200, Audi Quattro, and other legends from that brief, unbridled era.
