Coyote swaps seem to be all the rage these days, and for good reason. As highlighted by our Ten Of Our Favorite Coyote-Swapped ’Stangs story, the modern 5.0-liter V8 is growing in popularity thanks to its ease of modification and power output when forced induction is applied. A perfect example of this is the Backdraft Racing roadster.
This Cobra is rocking a built Coyote paired with a Whipple 2.3-liter twin-screw supercharger and a 250 shot of the juice under its hood, resulting in nearly 1,000 horsepower, according to the owner. In the video above from 1320Video, this Coyote-powered Cobra goes up against some heavy hitters – including a Porsche 911 and a built Corvette ZR1.
Alas, with a weight of only 2,400 pounds, this Cobra can’t find traction worth a damn with all of that horsepower and torque – especially since the owner was letting the juice flow right at the hit on a couple of passes. More tweaking of the rear suspension is needed, perhaps? Or maybe just an adjustment on the nitrous will do the trick. Either way, this Coyote-powered Backdraft Racing roadster is just plain badass.
Hopefully the next time the car owner is out, we can watch this Cobra go even faster with some additional downforce.
