We remember back when Ford closed the doors on the product 5.0L Mustang in 1995, and transferred all of the GTs over to the 4.6L “Mod” motor. More importantly, we remember all of the whining and complaining, the teasing and the taunting that the mod motors got back then. Clearly nobody’s – well, anybody whose been paying attention – is laughing anymore. Today’s DOHC 302 is a true force to be reckoned with on any field of battle.
That is why we were excited to see Canton Racing Products‘ trick front- and rear-sump road race pans. These pans are designed for the big course in mind, but not the current Mustang platform, meaning that these pans will fit early Ford chassis while the rear sump pan is designed with kit car platforms in mind.
Both pans feature a diamond-shaped race baffle assembly with four trap doors each, a removable anti-slosh baffle, a 20mm fitting for the factory low oil warning sender and will bolt up with a factory windage tray.
As these engines continue to prove themselves on road courses thanks to the aggressive Laguna Seca edition BOSS 302s, its pretty clear that these powerplants will be popping up in all sorts of different platforms in the near future, making these pans a sure sign of things to come.
